Yola's first album, "Walk Through Fire", was released on February 22, 2019, under Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound label and distributed by Nonesuch Records. The album's title alludes to both a destructive fire that damaged Yola's home and an abusive relationship she escaped.
A deluxe edition of the album was released on December 6, 2019, which includes two previously unreleased tracks, including a cover of Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", which was premiered via his Twitter account.
The album received numerous award nominations, including a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album, and critical acclaim from music critics. "Walk Through Fire" was produced at Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Studio in Nashville, with a team of studio musicians that included Vince Gill, Molly Tuttle, and Ronnie McCoury, among others.
The album was recorded and engineered by M. Allen Parker and received an average score of 85/100 on Metacritic. Rolling Stone ranked it as the 48th best album of 2019 and the third best country and Americana album of 2019.
