The first album by the English band WU LYF, called "Go Tell Fire to the Mountain", was released on June 13, 2011. It was highly anticipated and supported by NME, Stereogum, and Pitchfork. The band had the idea for the album well before they started recording, intending it to be a complete work rather than a collection of individual songs.
They settled on an abandoned church in Ancoats, Greater Manchester, called Saint Peter's, for the recording process because of the excellent acoustics provided by the large space. Although some suggested the location was related to the band's religious theme, the band members denied it and claimed that the church just fit the album's needs.
The album includes several singles like "Heavy Pop", "Concrete Gold", "Dirt", and "We Bros". It received generally favorable reviews from critics, with an average score of 77 out of 100 on Metacritic.
