The Slits, a band associated with punk and post-punk genres, originated in London in 1976. It was formed by individuals who were previously members of the Castrators and the Flowers of Romance.
Initially, the group consisted of Ari Up (Ariane Forster) and Palmolive (Paloma Romero), who played briefly with Spizzenergi before leaving to join the Raincoats. Kate Korus and Suzy Gutsy were replaced by Viv Albertine and Tessa Pollitt as the group evolved.
Their first album, "Cut", which was released in 1979, has been recognized as one of the most influential post-punk albums.
In September 1979, "Typical Girls" / "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" was released as a single on Island Records in the UK and Antilles Records in the US. The single also included additional alternate versions and was later reissued as a 12-inch EP. In the UK, it reached a chart position of No. 60.
