The album features the band's return to a more basic sound, with a focus on drums, guitar, bass, and percussion.
It is also the first studio album without Brian Jones, who had passed away two years earlier. The original cover artwork, created by Andy Warhol, featured a photograph of a man in tight jeans with a working zipper that revealed underwear fabric. However, later re-issues of the album featured just the outer photograph of the jeans. "Sticky Fingers" is considered one of the band's best albums, it reached number one on both the UK and US album charts and has been certified triple platinum in the US.
The song "Brown Sugar" topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971. It was voted the second best album of the year in The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll for 1971, based on American critics' votes. The album is inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame and included in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.
