He was born in The Bronx, New York but moved to Atlanta, Georgia when he was nine years old. Initially, Sy Ari da Kid wanted to be a professional basketball player but later got interested in rapping after being influenced by his brother and cousin. He attended Robert L. Osborne High School, where he met rapper K Camp. After graduation, he appeared in battle raps on Atlanta's HOT 107.9 FM, where he achieved 11 consecutive victories.

Initially, Sy Ari da Kid wanted to be a professional basketball player but later got interested in rapping after being influenced by his brother and cousin. He attended Robert L. Sy Ari da Kid taught himself how to produce and record using Pro Tools. His skills caught the attention of Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Brian Michael Cox, and he was signed to December First Publishing Group. He later launched his independent label called Arrogant Music, for which he serves as the CEO and main recording artist.

Sy Ari da Kid released a few mixtapes in 2011 and more in January 2012, which collectively featured 106 tracks to showcase his lyrical ability and versatility. He continued to release multiple mixtapes and collaborated with various artists over the following years. In February 2016, he released the mixtape B4 the Heartbreak, which featured Bryson Tiller on "Priorities" and included other features from Chasity, Lewis Sky, and Tink. Brockington confirmed that he was working on a follow-up album titled 2Soon.

Sy Ari da Kid's musical process involves freestyling until he comes up with a good hook or start to a verse. He doesn't write as much and doesn't feel confined to a single genre, claiming to like and create music from all genres.

There were rumors that Sy Ari da Kid was ghostwriting for Canadian rapper Drake in late 2015 after he released a song with Quentin Miller, who Meek Mill exposed as a co-writer for Drake. However, Sy Ari da Kid distanced himself from the rumors.
