Shonen Knife's debut album, "Burning Farm", is primarily in Japanese, except for the song "Twist Barbie" which is in English on the original release. The Japanese 8" vinyl version of the album, released by Zero Records (0-0783), has eight tracks. The CD re-issue includes bonus tracks like "Parrot Polynesia", "Watchin' Girl", and "Banana Fish" which first appeared on the Zero Records compilation LP, Aura Music, in November 1983. The other CD bonus tracks are live versions of "Watchin' Girl" and "Twist Barbie" on Oglio Records, or "Ukkari Hachibei" and a cover of The Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated" on MCA Records, Japan.
Bass guitarist Michie Nakatani painted the album cover. Two pressings of the 8" record exist, with different labels and back covers. One has a live photo on a black background, and the other features a posed group photo on a yellow background. Both pressings misspell the third track as "Twist Birbie".
K Records released "Burning Farm" on audiocassette in the United States in limited quantities, with a different cover and track listing. In 1993, Kurt Cobain included the album in his top fifty albums of all time.
