"Welcome 2 America" is Prince's 40th and final studio album, released posthumously on July 30, 2021 through NPG Records. It was recorded in March 2010 before the Welcome 2 America Tour and is the first full previously unreleased studio album of Prince material to be released after his death.
The album features Australian-born musician Tal Wilkenfeld, whom Prince had called in 2008 after watching her YouTube videos. In March 2010, Tal Wilkenfeld joined Prince and drummer Chris Coleman at Paisley Park to improvise and play chords.
Prince recorded the album as a trio, with Liv Warfield, Shelby Johnson, and Elisa Fiorillo as lead and harmony singers, and Morris Hayes adding keyboards and simulated string and horn arrangements.
The album was shelved for 11 years, and it is unclear why. It is speculated that Prince may have not released the album because not all of the album's collaborators, including Tal Wilkenfeld, were able to join him on tour. The Prince estate announced the release of "Welcome 2 America" on April 8, 2021.
