The album "Surfer Rosa" is the first album by the American alternative rock band Pixies, which was released in March 1988 on the British label 4AD. It was produced by Steve Albini and features many of the same elements as the band's earlier work, such as Spanish lyrics and references to Puerto Rico. The album includes experimental recording techniques and unique drum sounds, as well as references to voyeurism and mutilation.

Since 4AD was an independent label, distribution in the US was handled by Rough Trade Records, and the album did not chart in either country. The single "Gigantic" was re-recorded and released, peaking at number 93 on the UK Singles Chart. In 1992, "Surfer Rosa" was re-released in the US by Elektra Records and later received a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2005.

Critics frequently include "Surfer Rosa" on their lists of the best rock albums, and it has been cited as an inspiration by alternative rock musicians such as Billy Corgan and PJ Harvey. The album was also a major influence on Nirvana's 1993 album "In Utero".
