Lil Wayne's first major label studio album, "Tha Block Is Hot", was released on November 2, 1999, by Universal Records and Baby's Cash Money Records.
The album was produced by Mannie Fresh and executive produced by Bryan "Baby" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams, with recording sessions spanning from 1997 to 1999. Originally titled "I Ride At Night", the album debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 229,500 copies in the first week.
It then dropped to number ten in its second week, selling 117,000 additional copies. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album Platinum for selling over a million copies on December 10, 1999. The album has since sold 1.4 million copies in the United States as of June 2012.
