"The OOZ" is the third album by Archy Marshall, also known as King Krule, which was released on October 13, 2017, by True Panther Sounds and XL Recordings. It incorporates various genres like trip hop, R&B, punk rock, and jazz.
The first single from the album, "Czech One", was released in August 2017. The New York Times' fall preview guide reported the album's title and release date, and it is Marshall's first studio album as King Krule since 2013's 6 Feet Beneath the Moon. "The Ooz" received an average score of 80 based on 21 reviews on Metacritic, which indicates "generally positive reviews". In a review for AllMusic, Andy Kellman compared the album to its predecessor, stating that "the songwriting is more refined and the sounds are more disparate, resulting in a sort of controlled chaos, a scuzzy mix of nervy neo-rockabilly projectiles, howling dirges, and noodling dive-lounge tunes". Jayson Greene of Pitchfork gave the album their "Best New Music" designation, commending the album's diversity of musical styles, sounds, and textures. Alexis Petridis of The Guardian was more reserved in his praise, calling the album "frustrating" and "a difficult listen." Despite this, the album was nominated for the 2018 Mercury Prize.
