"Dookie" is Green Day's third studio album and their first with Reprise Records. It was released on February 1, 1994 and produced by Rob Cavallo.
The album was recorded in late summer of 1993 at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California, with most of the songs written by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. "Dookie" is based heavily on Armstrong's personal experiences and covers themes such as boredom, anxiety, relationships, and sexuality. The album was promoted with five singles and was both a commercial and critical success, reaching number two in the United States and winning the band a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album in 1995.
It is considered a landmark in punk rock and pop-punk and has sold almost 20 million copies worldwide, making it Green Day's best-selling album. Rolling Stone placed Dookie on its list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" at number 193 in 2003 and number 375 in 2020.
