Clipse's "Lord Willin'" is their second studio album and first major label release, which dropped on August 20, 2002 in the US via Star Trak and Arista. It took them a year to complete the recording sessions that began in 2001. The Neptunes, their long-time friends and collaborators, produced the album and Pharrell Williams featured on six tracks, including the hit singles "Grindin'" and "When the Last Time". Other featured artists on the album include Ab Liva, Roscoe P. Goldchain, Faith Evans, Fabolous, Jadakiss and Styles P. The deluxe edition of the album included two additional remix tracks of "Grindin'".

After the shelving of their first studio album, "Exclusive Audio Footage", by Elektra Records, The Neptunes signed Clipse onto their label Star Trak Entertainment. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart and reached number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, selling 122,000 copies in its first week of release. Critics praised the album, considering it one of the top hip-hop albums of the 2000s. Rolling Stone included the album at number 12 on its list of the 100 Best Debut Albums of All Time.
