Børns "Dopamine"

Børns announced his album on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show on August 19, 2015. The album's first single, "The Emotion" was released along with the announcement. He confirmed that he was working with producer Tommy English, who had produced his "Candy EP". He also enlisted producers Emile Haynie and Jeff Bhasker for help with the album. Børns and English used a lot of Beach Boys-esque harmonies during production, and some of the songs were influenced by old Playboy magazines from the '60s and '70s. Børns wanted the honesty in his music to translate to listeners, especially regarding the album's theme of love.

Børns performed at the Spotify House during South by Southwest 2015, playing "American Money" and two unreleased songs. A Target edition of the album was released, including two additional tracks. Dopamine received positive reviews from critics, with some praising its production and Børns' songwriting.
