"Parallel Lines" is Blondie's third album, released in 1978 by Chrysalis Records. The album's commercial success led it to reach number one in the United Kingdom in February 1979, as well as number six in the United States in April of the same year.

"Parallel Lines" spawned several successful singles, including the international hit "Heart of Glass". Prior to recording the album, Blondie's management convinced producer Mike Chapman to work with the band. Chapman found Blondie challenging to work with, stating that the band members disliked each other and were uninterested in working hard.

Despite these difficulties, the album was completed in six weeks, much shorter than the six months allotted by Chrysalis Records co-founder Terry Ellis. Chapman used an unconventional approach when working with lead singer Debbie Harry, who he describes as emotional and moody. After finishing the basic tracks, Harry would write the lyrics on the spot while in the studio. "Sunday Girl," "Picture This," and "One Way or Another" were all unfinished during the rehearsal sessions.
